Vol. 2 - Chapter 6 - The Worst Preparations
I entered the room and scanned my surroundings.
A man with thinning hair and as muscular as a gorilla stood in the center of the room, naked from the waist up, and the dismembered corpses of two children were scattered beside him.
"Oh, what a fine jewel," he said, leering over my body. He must be the boss, then.
"Grey-dono. They\'re even more depraved than the ones we faced just earlier."
"Agreed."
As Kurama had said, there was no hope left for them. That much was certain, but I\'d have him make a choice in the end.
"Hm, anyone who felt even the slightest disgust towards what happened to those kids, raise your hands. I\'ll let you die a painless death."
Of course, I wouldn\'t let them off easy, no matter how much they cried or wailed. I\'d give them the worst death they could possibly imagine.
After a moment of silence, a firework of laughter erupted throughout the room.
"You sure can talk, brat!"
"Heey, how about it, guys? He said he\'d let us die a painless death."
I\'m done. I want to set those children to rest as quickly as possible.
"Cut them down, bugs," I commanded.
An army of bugs swelled out of every place imaginable.
"Wha?" said one man, after which the bugs began to devour him as if they couldn\'t eat enough.
It didn\'t even take a minute. The bugs left not a single scrap as they ate and ate until only a single piece of trash was left in the center of the room.
"Wake up!" Kurama shouted, slapping the half-naked man awake.
It didn\'t really matter if he was awake or not, you know. My preparations had long been completed, so I didn\'t really care what happened after. I didn\'t mind if Kurama left him alone, but---
The entrance door cracked open, and I heard several footsteps climbing up the stairs.
"Grey-dono," alerted Kurama.
"I know. Did you call those guys?"
I hated being used.
"......"
Silence, as expected.
"I see, so you won\'t come out."
I directed the bugs towards the rats, when a bald man with a scar on his face appeared out of thin air and said, "Okay okay. Don\'t be so impatient."
"So? I\'m not in the best mood right now," I said. "Answer with your affiliation and your objective."
"Don\'t you already know?"
"Someone from the Department of Justice?"
"Really?" Kurama cut in. "What a world we\'ve come to."
Touché. No matter the reason, this officer of the law had let slide the atrocities committed in this estate.
"Explain your circumstances. Everything."
"Sure, sure," he shrugged and looked back towards the door.
The door then slammed open, and several armored soldiers rushed in.
"Hey, hey, are you serious?"
As I saw a man calmly walk through the door, stroking his trademarked long and thin mustache, I realized just how terribly awkward this looked.
