Vol. 3 - Chapter 109 - Katariona Tells Her Uncle About What Happened Before She Traveled Back in Time
Leon, who up until now had been sleeping quietly next to me, spoke in spite of the presence of my uncle.
"C, ca, ca the cat spoke ......? No, it\'s a holy beast. Why would it be strange if it spoke human language?"
My uncle was confused, still pointing at Leon.
"How much longer will you continue pointing at me? What a rude human being."
Leon doesn\'t usually say things like, "What a rude human being," could this be an attempt to intimidate him?
"Oh no, pardon me. I have never encountered a talking holy beast before."
My uncle dropped the finger that was pointing at Leon and began to fiddle around with his monocle. Leon\'s words must have shaken him up. I\'m curious to see how he\'ll react when he finds out that Leon is a god.
"So, Neko-kun. What exactly do you mean when you said that they should tell me?"
(TL: Neko means cat/kitty)
"It\'s not Neko-kun. It\'s Leon."
Leon was wagging his tail in my lap. The fur tickled my face.
"It\'s just like I said. Even after knowing about Rio\'s situation, can you still stand up for the Prince kid?"
"...... Rio, I want you to tell me."
My uncle gave me a look as if he was pinning his hopes on me.
"But ...... this might not be a story that can be so easily accepted.\'
"Your family knows about the situation, right? I am open to what my lovely niece has to say. Now, please, tell me."
I began to tell my story. I began talking about how I had gone back in time ....... Just like I did with the gods and my family.
Once I finished telling my story, my uncle was on his knees, crying.
"I\'m sorry! I\'m so sorry, Rio! I know I can\'t ask for your forgiveness, but please allow me to apologize again."
"Uncle! Please raise your head. I still can\'t forgive you for this engagement, but in my previous life, my uncle worked hard to gather evidence of my innocence. Despite his position as Prime Minister, he still did it for me......."
I rose and touched my uncle\'s shoulder.
As soon as my uncle looked up, I heard a distinctive ringing sound. My mother had rung the bell on top of the table. After a few moments, Marie, who had been waiting outside the reception room, entered the room.
"Mother?"
"For now, let\'s start afresh. Marie, can I have some tea? The best tea leaves."
"Yes, ma\'am."
Marie made another pot of tea, and we enjoyed the aroma as we talked with my uncle.
"I was thinking of resigning my position as Prime Minister before His Majesty the King asked for my services. But after hearing Rio\'s story, I don\'t think I can resign just yet."
My uncle was about to resign his position as Prime Minister. He must have been aware of the gravity of his crime.
However, even though he had bent the laws of the country, he still deserved recognition for his accomplishments to date. Shouldn\'t he be given a house arrest based on the extenuating circumstances?
"But the Campbells..."
"What are the Campbells doing? Brother-in-law?"
My uncle put his cup on the table and crossed his arms.
"You are aware that the Campbells have extensive business interests, do you not?"
"Yes," replied my father, "I heard that they do business with faraway countries."
"Recently, they have imported some illegal drugs. They said it was for medical purposes, so we checked it very carefully and issued a permit......."
I was startled to hear the word "drugs."
"Uncle, what kind of drug is it?"
"Don\'t worry, it\'s no Blue Snow Rose, Rio. It is said to relieve pain, but it has the side effect of causing hallucinations if taken in excess. It is a very dangerous drug. I\'ve placed restrictions on its sale to non-medical personnel."
There are heavy penalties for breaking the restrictions. It\'s not only the Campbells but also for the merchants who import the drug as well.
"I think we should keep an eye on Baron Campbell\'s movements. The Prime Minister\'s Office should also keep a close eye on them."
On the way home, my uncle told me this.
"Rio, if the royal family asks you to get engaged, I promise that I will use any means necessary to stop them."
"Uncle ......"
Leon smiled softly.
"It\'s good to have an ally, isn\'t it?"
"Yes, it is. It is reassuring to have Uncle on our side."
I commented, watching the owl-emblazoned carriage disappear into the evening sunset.
