Chapter 668: 664: Final Battle (22)

Out of the blue, the city started stirring in unrest after an earth-shaking tremor. Such unrest hadn’t occurred for several months since the new city moved to South Ridge. Mi Shen frowned and said to his Martial Ancestor, “Go see what’s happening.”

The Martial Ancestor servant returned after a while, reporting, “Vice Clan Chief, there has been a recent meat shortage in South Ridge. We have reduced the meat ratio in the food supplied in the new city. Some influential families are demanding an explanation outside the city hall.”

“An explanation?” Mi Shen sneered, “Inform Lord Di that he should calm these people down. If they haven’t dispersed by noon, show no mercy!”

The new city had already been squeezed dry of its value by the Mi Clan. The people staying here were merely servants and slaves. If it weren’t for the labor shortage in South Ridge, he would have left these people in Xiling, left to fend for themselves.

After all, ever since the seven prestigious clans of Xiling shifted their allegiance, the Elder Council’s attitude towards the new city had fundamentally changed.

Outside the city hall

A man from the crowd named Lord Di spoke up, “Lord Pei, the people of the new city are also residents of South Ridge. Compared to the rest, we have completed more than 60% of the housing construction in South Ridge. All we ask for is food, is that too much?”

The reason for the unrest was that while every other resident of South Ridge could receive full food supplies, this group of refugees from Chengzhou didn’t even have basic guarantees. They had to work for their food. They originally tolerated this, but the Mi Clan went too far, reducing the amount of Spiritual Food and meat in the food quota while not supplementing it with other food sources. Most citizens of the new city are warriors, if this goes on, it would coerce them into giving up their martial arts.

Lord Pei, the Martial Ancestor, sighed glancing at the grief-stricken young man, “Lord Di, the Vice Clan Chief has spoken. Lead your people away. If they are still gathered outside the city hall at noon, don’t say you weren’t warned.”

Hearing Mi Shen’s stance, the crowd outside the city hall was in an uproar, and a wave of dizziness washed over them.

“Ha, we won’t even wait till noon.” Lord Di gave a bleak smile, “My fellow people of Chengzhou have been working like beasts of burden for Mi Clan. But you don’t even have the decency to provide some food. We’re done living like this!”

“Lord Di, watch your tone!” The normally compliant young leader’s fierce reaction startled Pei, the Martial Ancestor, whose eyes filled with a chilling intent, “Are you planning on defying the orders of the Vice Clan Chief?”

“We, the people of Chengzhou, will not go hungry anymore!” Lord Di’s raging spiritual power made his intention clear. The sight of a dozen flaming Flood Dragons even made Pei’s eyes twitch with fury.

“You dare!?”

“What shouldn’t I dare? I heard the Mi Clan were defeated at North Mountain. Even the three Martial Ancestors who were supposed to guard Mi Shen are now only you. If I attack now, who can stop me?” Lord Di stood tall, his demeanor sent a shiver down the spine.

The dozen or so flame dragons impacted Pei, leaving him on the brink of collapse, with another ten new flame dragons rising from all sides, their new target was the city hall!

Nobody could have expected the unrest to turn into a riot, and everyone was surprised that there were so many extraordinary warriors in the new city, a place once believed to have no value. This sudden attack left Mi Shen baffled.

Starting a riot in the heart of South Ridge seemed like a reckless and deadly act. Yet, it appeared the warriors of New City didn’t seem to realize this as they began to collapse the city hall and kill anyone in sight. This violent display baffled everyone since they were the most obedient workers in South Ridge for the past few months.

Many warriors in the Mortal Realm rose from the debris of the collapsed city hall while many officials and stewards were trapped. Mi Shen broke the stones above his head and emerged from the debris, looking at the chaos in the new city with fury.

After killing several Chengzhou warriors who tried to attack him, Mi Shen locked eyes with Lord Di.

“Lord Di, is this how you repay me for my kindness?” Mi Shen’s eyes were full of rage. He remembered how Lord Di had begged before him when the Mi Clan planned to abandon the new city. But now, this man had started a riot.

Betrayed, Mi Shen was filled with hatred. He coldly spoke, “You’re done for. Due to your stupidity, everyone in the new city will die, and your newlywed wife, your newborn child will suffer because of you.”

Lord Di stepped on blazing hot rocks, covering a distance of several feet in a single step. He stood tall, looking condescendingly at the dishevelled Mi Shen, and softly laughed, “Let’s reintroduce ourselves.”

As he said that, Lord Di’s facial muscles began to twitch. His cheeks grew higher, his nose straighter, and his thin lips turned thicker, in a matter of a few breaths, his appearance had completely changed.

Recognizing Lord Di’s transformed appearance, Mi Shen’s face ceased to hold any anger, it was filled instead with shock, “You’re Tang Yao. So this riot was premeditated?”

As if caught in a sudden chill, Mi Shen began reassessing the situation. Lord Di, a beloved refugee leader from Chengzhou who was brought back by a treasure ship, was now Tang Yao, the leader of Tang Clan. Moreover, this type of disguise technique was unheard of, making him worried about the number of unnoticed infiltrators in South Ridge.

He had to report this to the clan immediately. Furrowing his brows, Mi Shen scanned the chaotic surroundings, trying to find an escape route.

“Stop looking. You’re not going anywhere.” Tang Yao smiled lightly, “Why don’t you accompany me on a stroll to the Bi Mountain Study?”

“With your power?” Mi Shen, scanning the area, realized that only by defeating Tang Yao head on could he escape. After all, the person standing before him was the leader of the Tang Clan study group. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down.

But Mi Shen had forgotten that this was not a fight in a ring, it was a battlefield amidst chaos. With every second counting, why would Tang Yao choose to fight him one on one?

“Wind Gale!”

Two giant wind blades formed by palm winds swept towards Mi Shen from behind. Even though Mi Shen had activated his protective spiritual armor immediately, he was still severely injured by the combined attack. The armor was shattered, and he fell unconscious.

Looking at the unconscious Mi Shen, Tang Yao frowned and said to people from his clan who had just walked into the center of the ruins, “You took too long. Is everything ready?”

“It’s ready. The animal cart is parked south of the new city. We are ready to leave at any moment!”

“Good, in the meantime, make sure this riot gets as chaotic as possible, at least buy me half a day’s time!”
